What do you do when you don’t know how to start a new project?
Well, secret number one is that you don’t have to go looking for ideas.
They are there and are usually waiting for you to make a connection.
Mostly, they appear as passing thoughts, and they are anything but random.
They are gifts of spirit, like little seeds that are just waiting to be cultivated.
Your best ideas usually appear when you least expect them to.
A word or an image will pop into your head, but that’s enough to get you started.
Words and images are the magic wands of creative people.
Don’t dilly-dally when an idea appears. Just start playing around with it and see where it goes.
If you are a writer, all you need is the first few words, but you have to get that first sentence right.
That’s the tricky part. It tells the reader what they are in for.
It might take a while to knock an idea into shape but play around with it for a while until it takes on a life of its own.
A story has its own energy and it knows where it wants to go.
A story must grab a reader’s attention and keep them wanting to know more.
It doesn’t matter whether it is a blog, a book, or a screenplay…it has to sound credible.
A good story travels along interesting or unusual lines,
and it usually has quite a few complications.
That’s another reason why a reader wants to know more.
A good story is usually one drama-laden incident after another,
which is why they work and why we love them.
